At Gold Seal Plumbing we are pleased to offer a new service that makes an incredible difference in the health of our client’s homes. We are now licensed to work on Radon Systems, which means diagnosing and eliminating a potentially fatal problem in client’s homes.
Radon is a gas that can be found in homes all over the US, and is a natural product of the breakdown of uranium, thorium, and radium in the rocks and soil your home is built on. It is radioactive and can be present in the air you breathe. The odorless, tasteless, invisible radioactive material causes cancer, and Radon is estimated to be the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States today.
Because it is a gas, radon can enter your home through minuscule cracks in the foundation, floors, or walls. It can also be present in water from wells that contain radon. When breathed in, radon decays quickly and gives off radioactive particles. These particles are damaging to normal lung tissue, and long-term exposure is directly linked to increased risk of lung cancer.
The only way to determine whether your home has unsafe levels of Radon is through testing. Gold Seal is licensed to perform certified Radon testing. The test measures Radon levels in your home for 2 to 90 days, and then our plumbers send the test to be analyzed at a laboratory. Next we share the results with our clients and help them formulate a plan if radon levels are found at unhealthy levels in the home.
A vent pipe system and fan is most commonly used in the reduction of radon in residences. For a comparable cost to other common home repairs, with the installation of this system (known as a soil suction radon reduction system) you can literally breathe easier knowing that the air in your home is safe for you and your family. The system pulls the radon from beneath the house and vents it outside, so it does not travel into your home. Any cracks or openings in the foundation or walls of your home are also sealed.
A Gold Seal Plumber can walk clients through the best options and systems for their home based on the test results. Dealing with Radon can be scary, but we have the training to diagnose and fix the problem. Radon testing and systems are just another way that Gold Seal Plumbing helps our client maintain a home that is functional and healthy for the whole family. Don’t hesitate to call us for Radon testing and removal systems, or for any plumbing needs at (509)535-5946.
